LINETTE DOHERTY

Linette encourages students to develop strong technique and performance skills along with a genuine love for dance and the arts, and opened The S.P.A.C.E. in 2004 for students to learn from industry professionals in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

Linette played the lead in the film One Heart Broken Into Song, and had the opportunity to work with tap legends Savion Glover and the late Gregory Hines, playing “Elaine” opposite Gregory Hines in Bojangles. She has also been featured in Doc, Soul Food (for Showtime), and the film Blue Hill Ave, which won the audience favourite award at the Acapulco Black Film Festival. She is a talented and versatile performer who has performed on film and television; on stage; on the radio – notably as the lead in the CBC Radio production of Rush Home Road; and sang on the Original Cast Recording of We Will Not Forget. This experience is what she brings to her students – the chance to learn about the world of performing from actual working performers.

As a professional actor, dancer, and singer, Linette has toured across Ontario with both Ballet Creole and Kalimba Kalimba. She was the choreographer for After Hours on CTV, and performed at the prestigious Charlottetown Festival. Students will recognize her as “Dana” the dance teacher in Disney’s Cheetah Girls. Metro, a piece Linette choreographed, directed, produced, and danced in, premiered in 2009 at Zoofest in Montréal as a top 10 pick in the Montréal Gazette, and enjoyed a successful run at the 2010 Toronto Fringe Festival, winning critical acclaim from NOW, The Toronto Star, eye, and others.

An energetic and enthusiastic teacher experienced with both children and adults, Linette has taught at numerous dance studios and schools, and continues to be in demand as a guest teacher and performer. She directed the Theatre Arts Program at Camp Mini–Yo–We this summer, and played the lead role of “Abigail Thompson” in My Brothers Keeper at The Music Hall.
